![]() Q: What's the secret sauce for the Pro 40?Ī: “I can name two things that we feel makes the Pro 40 a great charger. This is available in our new Green 40 product - parallel in all other regards to our Pro.” This opens up all sorts of possibilities, many of which we are already actively leveraging to make the JuiceBox the most beneficial EVSE out there.Īs well as working with utilities to optimize rate plans, we can view the grid's generation profile and optimize your EV charging for carbon emissions by controlling charge appropriately over time. On the server side, the Pro 40 offers revenue-grade sub-metering. They are compact and lightweight for portable use, and can even be taken on the road with you. The free web browser and *smartphone app allow you to set charge limits and monitor from anywhere!įurthermore, all JuiceBox units come ready to install simply by plugging in to a 240V outlet or 120V outlet with adapter. Precision energy metering lets you know exactly how much energy goes into charging your EV while TOU (time of use) lets you take advantage of the best possible off-peak rates from your utility. Q: What advantages does the JuiceBox Pro 40 have over higher priced 40 Amp EV Chargers?Ī: “For the EV owner, the Pro 40 brings a host of control and monitoring features, as well as industry leading power and safety features into the hands of the residential or commercial user. We asked Dorian Vargas-Reighley - Director of Production & Technical Support at Electric Motor Werks, which produces the Pro 40 in the US, a couple of questions: The Pro 40 comes standard with Energy Metering, WiFi, and a *SmartPhone app with control options. The JuiceBox Pro 40 charges your car up to 10x faster than the cord that it comes with, and for $599 is fully configured and ready to plug in. Until then, let us know what you think of the new JuiceBox in the comments section below.EV drivers are finding that the JuiceBox Pro 40 Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Station is an affordable solution that has many of the same (and more) features as other big name Level 2 chargers for hundreds less. You'll have to wait a few months to find out when we publish our Ultimate EV Chargers Buyers Guide for 2020. Will the new version retain the crown? It's worth noting that ChargePoint also improved their Home unit and introduces the ChargePoint Home Flex 48-amp EVSE, and may have closed the gap on the JuiceBox. In 2019 the JuiceBox Pro-40 was our "Top-Rated" unit for mid-powered level 2 home chargers. Enel X is also running a special until 3/23/20 and is giving away a free Echo Dot with the purchase of any new JuiceBox. However, even with the price increase, it's competitively priced compared to other smart-chargers that deliver comparable power. They also raised the prices from $599.00 to $649.00 for the 40-amp unit and from $549.00 to $619.00 for the JuiceBox 32, which needs to be taken into consideration. I think Enel X made some good upgrades and at the same time left room for improvement. Is it better than the previous unit? Probably, but not by much. Also, due to the added cable management and connector holster, the unit much bigger now than its predecessor and will have a larger footprint on the wall. While it's thinner than the previous version, it's also less flexible and becomes very stiff when it's cold. If you look at the picture above, you can see the cables from the other chargers seem to hang straight down, and the JuiceBox cable protrudes outward from the cable hanger before bending downwards because it is less flexible. This might not be an issue if you live in a warm-weather area, or if the charger is located in a heated garage, but it should be a consideration if you live in a cold-weather area and the unit is going to be mounted outdoors. This cable is one of the least flexible cables we've come across.Īfter leaving the cable outside overnight in 32-degree temperatures, it was stiff and hard to manage, more so than the cables on most other chargers. One of the things we check on EVSE is how pliable the cable is in cold temperatures. Enel X listened to customer feedback and the new JuiceBox now has a thinner cable. It was much thicker than other 32-amp and 40-amp EVSE on competing brands. One of the biggest complaints of the previous JuiceBox was how thick the cable was. Perhaps the biggest improvement is that the JuiceBox can now perform over the air upgrades, which will allow Enel X to add new features to the unit as they develop them. ![]() Charging my Tesla Model 3 with the JuiceBox
